During my first trip to Kyoto, I had the privilege of being introduced to the art of the katana. During training sessions, bamboo mats are cleanly sliced by the blade’s edge, leaving behind beveled cylinders. This beveled cylinder shape became etched in my memory and resurfaced when I began sketching my first lighting fixtures.

The Dark Katana model unites opposites and contrasts: The golden interior responds to the black exterior, the black resin is both matte and glossy, and the lampshade’s opacity contrasts with the reflection of the gilding. The light is projected vertically, like a column of light.
